Abstract

Abstract
The aim of this research was to evaluate the behavior of a hybrid solar-wind powered grid-connected electric bus charging station to recharge a fleet of electric busses. The system acquired the energy from a 120 kW photovoltaic array and a 65 kW wind turbine. It has 4 converters associated with 4 charging stations, and 4 bidirectional (DC)/(AC) inverter connected to the grid. The HOMER simulation software was used to evaluate and to compare the solar and wind energy potential presented in each zone and its effect in the charging system. It was demonstrated for both sites that the system not only provides electric energy to charge the busses fleet but also brings energy to the grid.Key words: renewable energy, electric bus, hybrid solar-wind systems, Yutong.
